Guwahati, May 23 (PTI): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today awarded media fellowships to 20 journalists here.

Acknowledging the role of scribes in highlighting issues and representing the aims and aspirations of the people of the state, Sonowal said journalists are the conscience of the society.

The fellowships, “the first-ever scheme of its kind launched in the state”, were awarded under the aegis of the Information and Public Relations Department.

Hailing the efforts of the state’s journalists, the CM said that Guwahati being the gateway to South East Asian nations, people’s perception towards Assam has undergone a “sea change”, and the media has contributed immensely to that.

Sonowal said that the media fellowships would be extended to more journalists in future.

The CM also flagged off a conducted press tour of 20 rural media persons from the state on a goodwill mission to Rajasthan from May 23 to June 3, and said such visits to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan augured well in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’.
