Imphal, Jan. 11:The court of the district and session Judge of Imphal West on Wednesday fixed January 20 for “sentence hearing” of accused N Ajay Meitei, son of a former minister in a six-year old murder case, according to sources.
In the day’s hearing, the accused, Ajay, pleaded for his release on probation of good conduct under section 4 of the Probation of Offender Act 1958 read with section 360 of CrPc, legal sources said.
However taking consideration under section 4 of Probation of Offender Act 1958 sub-section (2) of section 4, the court directed the Sajiwa Jail SP to produce the accused on January 20 before the court.
Ajay, son of a former minister Biren from Luwangshangbam Mamang Leikai under Heingang police station was brought to court in a prison van at around 10.30 am and taken inside the courtroom at around 11. Victim Irom Roger’s mother Chitra, a resident of Wangkhei in Imphl East district, was also present in the day’s hearing.
Ajay is accused of having shot at Irom Roger during a road rage in Imphal during Yaoshang festival on March 20, 2011. Ajay and four of his friends were arrested in connection with the case but the four others were discharged from the case in 2011.
