Some thoughts on the demands of JCC/NTAC

Of late, the NTAC, the JCC in which all of us from different Naga tribes are good members have been demanding with ultimatum the suspension of the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner Longleng and the police personnel involved in the unfortunate loss of our three brothers as a result of the ULB elections imbroglio following the backtracking of T.R Zeliang and his council of ministers dishonouring the tripartite agreement made on the 30th of January 2017.

As a matter of fact, many of us talk only of our dearest brothers from Dimapur but let us also remember our third brother who also gave his own from Longkhim and not forgetting all those who were wounded alongside.

I am in no way justifying the actions of the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner Longleng or the Police personnel on duty during the most unfortunate incidents. In fact, as a bonafide member of the Lotha Youth Hoho and more so as one of the advisers of it or a member of the Lotha Hoho Joint Action Committee I was also one of those who always stood at the forefront alongside our Lotha leaders and volunteers supporting the Naga cause during the mayhem which eventually led to the irreparable loss of lives and properties worth bankrupting the state government.

But the question that I want to pose here to every right thinking and rational Naga is; what made the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner or the other Police officers and jawans on duty take such a step? Is their suspension rational? And will it bring us the real solution?

The crux of the matter is, had the cabinet led by the then Chief Minister Shri. T.R Zeliang decided to truly respect and put into action the tripartite agreement signed on the 30th of January 2017, no matter whatever some power and money hungry MLAs have argued for, such loss of precious lives, damage of properties and distrust among the Naga family wouldn’t have crept in.

Irrespective of tribes and communities, did we not unanimously agree at the 7th February meeting held at the APO hall at Kohima where our Naga sisters even served us with wonderful meal that ‘the same yardstick shall be used to measure all the concerned’? Now that everything is said and done, Government restructured, cabinet ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and Advisors seated, why demand only the suspension of the Police Commissioner, D.C Longleng and police on duty during the fateful and horrific night/ day? Are not the Ministers and MLAs concerned actually the ones to be dealt with, if the matter truly concerns? Since every citizen is under the law, let the law not be tampered.

We all know that, in our state, The Government’s power is most of the time abused. Am I not correct? Right from the beginning when our movement started, the Lothas under the dynamic leadership of the Lotha Hoho, where many Church leaders also prayed stood with us decided to practically deal with the situation with the feeling of One Naga family and without any tribalism, so everyone knows we’ve stood our ground with genuineness and shall continue to do so.

Therefore, instead of jumping into conclusion, we may make much wiser decision by letting a proper and unbiased inquiry be made, if we so desire. I’m not quite sure as to whether the Post Mortem results are crystal clear, but if so, honestly speaking what kind of bullets riddled the bodies of our hero brothers? Whether they are of those weapons which are used by our local police or others etc.?

I’m in no way saying that none of them should be suspended, but my point is ‘If action is to be taken, then we should yardstick to our 7th February resolutions as rational Naga men, and for that matter our battle for good is not yet over.

So, let us make wise decisions to keep our family intact and further develop our sense and feeling of oneness for a better Nagaland. God forbid that we make more mistakes.

My humble writing does not represent the thoughts of the Lotha Hoho or the general Lotha community but this is what I would like every wise and matured Naga to ponder upon. I am also open to correction.

I am and I shall remain a Naga forever and not just a Lotha.
