Soil dept. publishes ‘The Jhum,’ a flood management programme

Dimapur, June 14 (EMN): A newsletter about environment and development ‘The Jhum,’ published by the Soil and Water Conservation Department was released on June 12 at Khulazu Basa village in Phek district on June 12.
The Department of Information and Public Relations in a press update on Thursday informed. The newsletter has narrated about the process for implementation of flood management program through Integrated Catchment Area Treatment (Icat) in the upper Sidzü River. It added that the idea was to trap the top fertile soil and surface runoff with various soil and water conservation measures such as water harvesting ponds, contour trenches, check dams, creation of nurseries and gap plantation etc. The belletin was also said to have been substantiated with photographs.
The newsletter was the Issue 6 of Volume 1 released by the village’s Head Gaonbura Vemohü Kezo in the presence of Khekiho Shohe, the joint director of the department and other officials.
