Islamabad, May 21 (IANS): At least six policemen were killed and one other was injured in two separate incidents of firing in Pakistan over the last 24 hours, police said on Sunday.
Superintendent of Police Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto said three policemen were sitting in a parked police vehicle on Sunday when some unidentified gunmen sprayed bullets at them in Karachi, and fled the scene.
All three policemen, seriously wounded in the attack, were shifted to a nearby hospital where two of them succumbed to injuries while the third was still in critical condition. In a separate attack in Kohat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province late on Saturday, four policemen were killed when their vehicle came under attack by unidentified assailants, police said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Raza Khan said an undetermined number of militants ambushed a police vehicle in Mohsin Khel area of the district, killing four policemen including an official. Khan said the militants sprayed bullets at the vehicle when it was on routine patrolling on the highway, and fled. Jamaat ul Ahrar, a splinter group of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, has claimed responsibility for both the attacks against the cops.
