Dimapur, May 30 (EMN): Commissioner of police, Dimapur, Limasunep Jamir, confirmed that as per preliminary investigation a China-made grenade was used on the May 29 blast in Dimapur wherein four persons were injured, and one died.
At a press conference held at Dimapur police ‘commissionerate’ office on Tuesday, Jamir informed media persons that a five-member special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted under additional deputy commissioner of police (Crime branch), Dimapur. He assured expeditious and thorough investigation into the incident. “
‘The motive behind the crime is under investigation and involvement of any group or individual cannot be ruled out at the moment”, maintained the police commissioner. Dimapur is largely a peaceful city and Monday’s incident has come as a concern for the ‘commisionerate’ and police department, stated Jamir. The police commissioner appealed citizens to repose faith on the district police and assured that ‘efforts are being made so that Dimapur remains peaceful’. “All efforts will be made to ensure that the perpetrator(s) of such heinous act is brought to meet the ends of justice”, assured Jamir.
The police commissioner with additional deputy commissioner of police (Crime), Dimapur, Shouka Kakheto reiterated that two unidentified persons were seen alighting from a Silver Maruti car outside Ideal Chemist following which, the miscreants lobbed the grenade inside the shop and escaped in the same vehicle leaving five injured.
One of the injured persons would later succumb to the injuries at around 10.47 pm on Monday, it was informed. The deceased identified as Abdul Basit, aged 35, was employed as a salesman in New Market Dimapur.
The four injured persons who are stated out of danger have been identified as Iheiling Newmai, 22 years currently employed at Adidas showroom sustained injuries to left temple and both legs while passing through the chemist at the time of the incident; Dilwar Hussain 24 years, salesman in the chemist sustained minor injuries to the leg; Bidhan Biswas 40 years, brother of the Ideal Chemist owner sustained injuries to the left eye and has been shifted to Guwahati for treatment and Mithun Biswas, 42 years, salesman in the chemist sustained minor injuries to the left leg. The owner of the chemist was not present at the time of the incident, said the police official.
Dimapur shutdown peaceful
The 12-hr trade shutdown called by Business Association of Nagas, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, East Dimapur Business Association and Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association in protest of Monday’s episode went off peacefully without any untoward incident while the business community in solidarity completely down their shutters and establishments around Dimapur town.
However it was alleged that few petrol stations taking advantage of the complete shutdown were hiking the price of fuels as per their convenience. Most of the autorickshaws stayed off the road though vehicular movements were exempt from the shutdown. Some auto drivers plying in town supposedly were also hiking prices of the fares for the day with the pretext of hike in petrol price by some petrol stations.
