Dimapur, March 25 (EMN): The Wokha district administration has initiated a signature campaign seeking ‘clean elections’ as part of the systematic educational and electoral participation (Sveep) campaign, on March 25.
The campaign was undertaken in association with a nongovernmental organisation in Wokha called Team Metamorphosis, updates informed on Monday.
The campaign was launched by district election officer of the district Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, at the police point in Wokha town. Members of the public and students attended the event too.

In his address during the programme, Samoon, also the deputy commissioner of Wokha, said that the Sveep campaign was an event at which the public, especially students, can show their support as “participants in democracy,” an update from the Wokha DPRO stated.

‘As students, they have a bigger role and responsibility by way of educating their parents, friends and relatives about ethical voting for a brighter future,’ he was quoted as having said.

Samoon appealed to the participants to disseminate information about Best Practices and educate voters in choosing the right leader who can raise issues concerning the district and Nagaland.

The Sveep is an educational platform of the Election Commission of India that works to educate voters, equipping them with basic knowledge related to the electoral process and promoting voter literacy in India.

According to the mission statement on the commission’s website, the Sveep’s primary goal is to build a ‘participative democracy’ in India by encouraging eligible citizens to vote and take informed decisions during elections.

The statement read: ‘The programme is based on multiple general as well as targeted interventions which are designed according to the socio-economic, cultural and demographic profile of the state as well as the history of electoral participation in previous rounds of elections and learning thereof.’
