Dimapur, Dec. 18 (EMN): In commemoration of the week-long observance of National Consumer Day beginning from December 18 to 24, president of Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) Kezhokhoto Savi has appealed to all service providers to honour rights of the consumers. National Consumer Day is observed on December 24 every year in the country.
As part of the programme, NVCO team visited LPG counters in Kohima town on December 18 to ascertain how the consumers were treated. The team expressed sadness to note that the consumers- mostly mothers who were suppose to take care of their children at home- were already on the queue since 3 a.m. NVCO has questioned the district administration on the plight of the consumers and other measures being adopted to solve the LPG problem. NVCO has urged the district administration to solve the problem before December 24 and present as a gift to the consumers to celebrate the National Consumer Day.
NVCO would also be marking its seventh year of running Nagaland State Consumer Helpline with Toll Free: 1800 - 345 - 3701 on December 24. The Helpline as central project was launched on December 24, 2011, coinciding with the National Consumer Day.
Meanwhile, NVCO has requested the courier service counters to deliver any parcel or letter at the door as payment has been made at source. It added that failing to comply with would amounts to exploitation of consumer rights. NVCO also detected deficiencies by the service providers run by the state department like power/ electricity, PHE, etc.
