KOHIMA, OCTOBER 8

Senapati FC, Manipur downed MT Youth Club (MTYC), Kohima, as Momoy Vaephai scored in the additional minutes to steer his team to the quarterfinal of the ongoing NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy held at Kohima Local Ground.
Momoy’s header came during the allotted four minutes additional time through a free kick cross, after one of Senapati’s forward was taken down by the MTYC defender.
The MTYC will regret the last minute error as they failed to take the match to the tie-break which could have gone either way. The last minute goal shattered the hope of MTYC who performed exceptionally well in the second half of the match.
Though the match was equally poised till the penultimate goal, the defence line of Senapati FC was kept busy throughout the second half as MTYC forward line kept pressing the visiting team.
A goal is all what it takes and Senapati FC has made it to the last eight with the solitary goal. They will next play against Addax FC in the quarterfinal on October 10.
Earlier in the first match, Nagabazar Youth Organisation (NYO) made it to the quarters after surviving a tie-break against Headwinds FC, Kohima. The NYO came from behind to level the match to make it to the tie-break where they emerged victorious.
Though, Headwinds FC player Menuokhrietuo Rülho scored hat-trick to become the 10th player to do so in this year’s edition, yet, he was left with nothing to take home as his team lost a match where they had the upper hand.
Headwinds FC took the first lead through Menuokhrietuo in the 21st minute. NYO was quick to find the equalizer, as Khekuto Shohie leveled the match in the 33rd minute. NYO’s celebration was short lived as Menuokhrietuo scored his second goal in the 34th minute. Just six minutes left before the interval, Menuokhrietuo went on to score his hat-trick goal in the 39th minute.
Entering the second half, a rejuvenated NYO fought back to stay in the game. Their efforts was rewarded as Neiphivilie Seyie got past the keeper in the 43rd minute, followed by another in the 63rd minute to level the match taking it to the tie-break.
Moving on to the quarterfinal matches, the matches will be played in 90 minutes, and followed by 30 minutes extra time if the two teams still remains in a draw. To this, the organizers have informed all the spectators and remaining teams to take note of the reschedule of timing beginning from tomorrow where the first match will commence at 11.30 am.
