Security forces apprehend underground activists

Dimapur, Jan. 17 (EMN): A cadre of the NSCN (K) is said to have been apprehended by security forces in Arunachal Pradesh. Updates on Wed. from the defence information establishment informed that one Bishnu Bhujel, a self-styled ‘sergeant major,’ was apprehended in the afternoon of Jan. 16 by security forces.
A press release issued by the Press Information Bureau (Defence wing) on Jan. 17 mentioned specific inputs about a cadre reportedly trying to terrorize and extort money from Mulong village, Ledo. A battalion of security personnel launched an operation and apprehended the self-styled ‘sergeant major,’ it was informed.
The Changlang battalion of the DAO division is said to have been carrying out operations in south Arunachal Pradesh to keep the area peaceful and out of the clutches of insurgents.
Post-spot interrogation led to the cadre admitting to being active in the Himalayan group of the banned outfit since 2016 and that he had undergone six months weapons training at the NSCN (K) camp in Myanmar. His wife is also an active cadre of the outfit, it was informed. He was stated to have revealed further that he had been carrying out extortion activities in the area and was working in close association with a self-styled ‘major,’ one Makam Hacheng, of the NSCN (K), the press release stated.
Also, a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau (defence) on Jan. 17 has informed that the security forces under the aegis of the DAO division had apprehended another underground cadre besides confiscating arms and ammunition, among other incriminating items.
It was informed that during the wee hours of Jan. 17, the Changlang battalion launched an operation in Namtok village and apprehended a hardcore NSCN (IM) cadre, one self-styled ‘private’ Kejen Ngongpa, besides confiscating a pistol and ammunition. The self-styled ‘private’ has been an active member of the banned outfit since Dec. 2016 and had undergone training at an NSCN (IM) training camp in Myanmar, it was informed.
Further, it was informed that one Wangnyai Wangsu, an ‘over ground worker’ of the NSCN (IM) was apprehended on Jan. 16 morning by the Longding battalion, a press release from the Press Information Bureau (Defence wing) informed on Jan. 17 Wed.
The note mentioned that the security force acted on specific inputs about the presence of an ‘over ground’ worker of the NSCN (IM) at Niausa in Longding. The personnel launched an operation and apprehended Wangnyai Wangsu besides confiscating INR 3240 of extorted money and multiple mobile phones, understood to have been in his possession.
The Longding battalion, under the aegis of the DAO division, has been carrying out relentless operations in south Arunachal Pradesh to keep the area peaceful and out of clutches of insurgents and the capture will go a long way in creating fear among the antinational elements in the area, it was asserted.
Post-spot interrogation of the ‘over ground worker’ led to his admitting to having provided administrative support and carrying out extortions for the group, it was informed. The cadre further revealed that he was going to Dimapur for recruitment, the news updates stated.
