SCERT organises career conference

Dimapur, July 14 (EMN): Guidance and Counselling Cell of SCERT has organised a career conference programme for the 655 selected students of Don Bosco College and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima, on July 14 at DBHSS hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Sarita Yadav, SDO (Civil), Peren, along with Kelhouseto Nakhro, NPSC Deputy Secretary, and C Wangan Phom, (EAC), Kohima, as the resource persons.
Chairman of the programme Dr. Zavise Rume, Assistant Professor and Nodal Officer of Guidance and Counselling Cell, SCERT, Kohima, in his key note address, mentioned that SCERT, Kohima, organises such career conference for students as a means to enable students to channelise their talents into choosing the right career through direct interaction with the professionals. “Professionalism is the need of the hour as the world today is a world of opportunity and we need to have employable skills. Therefore, career guidance programmes are important for students to improve oneself and enable them to make realistic choices in life,” he said.
Fr. CM Joseph SDB, Rector of Don Bosco College, Kohima, delivered the welcome address, while the inaugural speech was delivered by Khrietuo Mezhur, Director of SCERT.
In his address, he shared concern about how people in Nagaland view government service as the only alternative, which has reached a saturation point with more than one lakh thirty five thousand employees. He urged upon the students to have a broad perspective and think of other types of employment rather than government service.
Resource person of the first session, Sarita Yadav, SDO (Civil), Peren, spoke on “How to prepare for civil service examination conducted by UPSC.” Through slides, she highlighted elaborately on the basic minimum requirement, examination process, change in scheme of exam, subject areas that one must give due attention to and also recommended good study materials to aid them in preparing for civil service examination.
In order to achieve success, she urged them to have conviction, believe in their potential and be a good human being. She further encouraged the students to read newspapers and magazine and stay updated.
She suggested some reading materials like The Hindu. Currents Affairs, Outlooks, Frontier, NECRT text book…etc.
Kelhousetuo Nakhro, NPSC Deputy Secretary, spoke on how the NPSC examinations are being conducted in Nagaland. He gave some tips on how to prepare for the NPSC exam. He added that the government is not in the position to give job to all.
In another session C Wangphom, EAC, spoke on how to prepare for the civil examination conducted by the NPSC. Stating that problem of unemployment is on the rise, while the numbers of posts are decreasing, he said only the hardworking people can achieve success.
