Salesian College celebrates college week

Dimapur, Dec. 8: Salesian College of Higher Education (SCHE) celebrated a week-long college week from December 2 to 8 at College Football ground. The inaugural programme was graced by Dr. P.S. Lorin, principal of Tetseo College as chief guest.
Addressing the students, Dr. Lorin said, one’s destiny lies in ones hand therefore, he asked the students to decide today for their future. He remarked that winners must appreciate the participants and positive vibes should be radiated to all. He also exhorted the staff and students to contribute and work together for the upliftment of SCHE by way of getting NAAC accreditation. Further, the chief guest declared the college week opened.
The Principal of SCHE Fr. Dr. PolicarpXalxo, in his introductory speech said sports and various competitions are part and partial of academic life, where one learns team spirit, co-operation and leadership qualities. He encouraged the College Week Committee (CWC) to organize events creatively and wished all the students an educative experience.Earlier, the chief guest unfurled the college flag and lighted the college week cauldron.Rules of the gameswere read out by CWC Sunil Bara and the pledge was administered by the president of CW Rajendra. March past was displayed by the four contingents, led by scout troop.
In avaledictory function, chief guest, Fr. Dr. Mathew Thuniampral, director of Shalom Rehab Centre-Chumukedima, emphasized on the meaning of Christmas.He said People at large give importance to the external celebration but ‘we’ must remember that it is the celebration of Jesus’ birthday. He exhorted all to reach out to the poor and the needy just as Christ came for the weak and the poor.
Vice Rector of SCHE, Fr. Sebastian Jose sdb, in his welcome speech, said winning a medal is very good and praise worthy but participation and upholding the ideals of fair play is of utmost importance which they had done during the college week and further encouraged them to prepare themselves to be challenged, excited and inspired.
On the occasion, SCHE Magazine “Rendezvous’16,” which focusses on Child Rights was also released by the chief guest.
For all the Individual and group events, prizes were distributed. In overall performances, green, yellow, red and blue were placed in first, second, third and fourth respectively. The president of CWC, RajendraReang thanked the principal, staff and all the students for their cooperation and support. On behalf of the SCHE, Daikho Mathew thanked CWC for the well organisedprogramme and selfless service.
Football, volleyball, basketball, tug-of-war and individual competitions were the highlight of a weeklong event.
