Safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage seminar at Phek College

upllll 1Dimapur, August 14 (EMN): A seminar on safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage was organised by Phek Government College (PGC) in collaboration with Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Nagaland chapter on August 12, at Deo Nukhu Hall, PGC.
Addressing the seminar as a chief guest, DC Phek, Kovi Meyase in his speech said in this fast changing world, “we should render our best effort to preserve and practice our culture and tradition”. He also said that with the influence and impact of information technology we are at risk in losing our identity. Cultural traditions and the modern western culture should be co-related, he added.
Phek district, in particular, is in a traditional period to retrospect to revive its dignity and integrity, he said.
Resource person, convenor of INTACH Nagaland Chapter, Sentila T. Yanger, said the main purpose of the seminar was to create awareness of safeguarding our cultural heritage through identification and documentation. It is the responsible of every individual to recognize and celebrate intangible cultural heritage and exploring the potentials for sustainable community development, she said. She also reminded the participants to identify undocumented knowledge to promote tourism and empower communities.
The pogramme was chaired by Keviriebeinuo Kehie, assistant professor, English department while welcome address was delivered by L.Mefutiba, principal of the college and vote of thanks was proposed by vice principal, Besugulie Venuh. Cultural song was presented by PGC students.
The seminar was attended by people from neighboring villages, students, teaching faculty and special invitees.
