Dimapur, Sep. 8 (EMN): Member of Parliament (LS) and former Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio is pained to hear the demise of late Er. Akangmeren Ao, at Kohima on September 6.
In a condolence message, Rio said Akangmeren was the retired Chief Engineer of the PHE department, who gave the best years of his life towards government service and made significant contributions towards building up the department during some of the most difficult periods in our State’s history.
Describing Akangmeren as an energetic person who was always willing to make sacrifices for the welfare of the people, Rio expressed that the State will remain indebted to him for his contributions and sacrifices.
After his retirement, he continued to be actively involved in society through various initiatives and continued to assist different sections, he added.
Rio lamented that his passing away will leave a void in the society especially to the Ao community, as “we have lost an elderly personality, whose vast experience and knowledge was a source of guidance for all of us.”
“Late Akangmeren has been a close associate of mine and we had positive interactions over the years. I particularly remember our badminton sessions, where he would play with full enthusiasm and energy. He brought smiles to everybody around him and he was the source of laughter for all of us every time he was around,” Rio said.
Further, Rio and family conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.
