Meriema, Dec. 15 (EMN): Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio, has called upon the people particularly the youth to venture out into the field of sports and games for overall development of mind and body as well as to uplift their economy.

Inaugurating a new village ground in Meriema near Kohima on December 14 as the chief guest, Rio called upon the youth to be physically active at the prime of their life. Emphasising on the huge opportunity in sporting sectors, Rio elucidated that sports is a level arena where only merit and prowess prevails and that excellence in sports can lift one up to fame and glory, besides making one wealthy overnight. He was hopeful that the new ground would be utilised by the youth particularly for sporting activities.

Acknowledging the natural potential and inborn talents of Naga youth, the MP rued that this potential was not being developed to the fullest thereby making the State to lag behind other sister states of the region and the rest of the country.

The MP was of the view that violence in the past has negatively impacted the Naga society including the development of sports and games. He reminded that during his tenure as chief minister for three consecutive terms, the government had actively pursued development of sports by creating opportunities for the youth.

Expressing hope that Nagas will make great strides in sports, the chief guest said that under an atmosphere of peace and harmony in the society, many changes for the betterment of the youth in particular can take place.

Touching upon the ongoing political process between the various Naga national political groups and the Government of India, the MP said, “It is the desire of the people that solution best comes before the next general election. I support the elected members and the State Government on their stand for solution before election to bring about peace and development which in turn will utilise the full potential of our people and the youth in particular.”
