‘Whoops! Here We Are’ is a duo- Sunep Walling and Meyu Longchar from Mokokchung-two childhood friends who have grown together with toy trucks and G.I. Joe’s to Pokemon and Beyblade and Music. Before they realised they were destined to make music together in June this year, they were both members of a rap group which ‘didn’t work’ in their won admission. But their passion to make music gave birth to “Whoops! Here We Are”. They have released their first track titled ‘Love Biscuit’ which conveys a fun track like their name where everybody can enjoy it whether the young or the adults. Read on to know more of Sunep Walling and Meyu Longchar and their peppy music. EASTERN MIRROR: What does your band name mean? What is the origin of your band’s name? Whoops! Here We Are: We were reminiscing on the earlier days when we were in a band together that experimented on rap/hip hop but the band unfortunately didn’t work out. We were talking about how we turned from rapping and singing to producing so we decided that we should name ourselves “Here We Are”. “Whoops” was added a little later on because we thought it added to the story of our formation as a duo which was somewhat unplanned for. EASTERN MIRROR: How long have you both known each other? How did you meet? Whoops! Here We Are: We go way back. We’ve known each other since nursery and we’re basically best friends. From toy trucks and G.I. Joe’s to Pokemon and Beyblade, we’ve been there together. (Haha) I think growing up together had a huge influence on the common interests that we share and that’s something we both cherish. EASTERN MIRROR: What inspired you to make music together? Whoops! Here We Are: For us, music grew from fondness to passion. We had always been fascinated by the idea of being a part of the music making process and eventually we found ourselves composing and writing songs. As we mentioned earlier, we had been together in a band before and earlier this year in the summer when the two of us met, we discovered that we shared the same passion and that we had been working on similar projects. That is when it striked us that we would make a good duo. We had the bond and the passion and here we are today. EASTERN MIRROR: Tell us about the song writing/music making process that you guys go through? Whoops! Here We Are: There’s no mantra behind it. It’s actually quite a simple process. We make a lot of random melodies and when that one particular melody strikes us equally, we work on that. But yes, sometimes it doesn’t work out as easy as it sounds and that’s when we cover for each other and encourage one another. Humming and coming up with weird and random sounds was what led us to “Love Biscuit” too. EASTERN MIRROR: What has been your biggest challenge as a duo? Whoops! Here We Are: It’s difficult at times for two people to come to a sole decision and that’s the biggest challenge we face as a duo. When one might want to produce something mellow, the other would want a more progressive sound. So it’s like a double edged sword because we get a lot of ideas and they tend to clash sometimes and we end up wasting time in consulting about it. EASTERN MIRROR: Talk us through your debut release ‘Love Biscuit’ Whoops! Here We Are: “Love Biscuit” is a really chill track. We wanted to create something soothing which would easily blend in with the background of people’s conversations but at the same time have that energy to jolt people and make them want to groove to the beat. EASTERN MIRROR: What’s the ultimate plan for ‘Whoops! Here We Are? Whoops! Here We Are: The ultimate plan for “Whoops! Here We Are” would be to get our music heard by the world. You know, it would be a waste of all the love and care we put into making them if there are no listeners. We want to create “wonders” which will have an impact on our listeners and make music that would be remembered.
