Beginning his performances from a very tender age at schools and churches, young talented 18 years old Wangyat Wangsu from Tizit sets to compete with the fast growing music industry of Nagaland. Following his participation at the Naga Orpheus Hunt (2014) as one of the finalists, Wangyat recently released his debut music video ‘Just You & Me’ that speaks the innocence and youthful love of childhood friends.

Eastern Mirror: Something about your early singing days? And when did you first realize that music was something you wanted for life?
Wangyat Wangsu: I actually started singing at a very young age. I really enjoyed and participated in singing at various churches and school events. And moreover, many friends and well wishers started encouraging and appreciating my talent with regards to singing.
…..Well, I thought why not take up music seriously
Ultimately, I realized my talent that’s how I took the decision to take part in Naga Orpheus Hunt (2014) and was one among the Finalist. If God open up a wider way for me then why not…. I wish to focus on music career all through my life.

Eastern Mirror: In few lines explain about you debut music video ‘Just You & Me’ which was released just few days ago.
WW : “Just You & Me” is written and composed by Artist/Musician Moba Inggang. The song speaks about the innocence and youthful love of the childhood friends. It tells us about how a young lover recollects his past memories and put it into a soulful music.

Eastern Mirror: Recalling your proud moments of being one of the finalists of the Naga Orpheus Hunt (2014) at such an early age, what good or bad have you learnt from the contest?
WW: Well, I have splendid memory in accordance to NOH. I met people from different parts of Nagaland with great talents and great charisma. It gave me so much energy and determination to move forward enthusiastically. Most importantly, it was one of my closest friend Miss Lipokmenla Aier who encouraged me and added a strong zeal in me to join the contest.
The positive things I’ve learnt for the contest is to be confident and more focus on music than any other things in the world. And in terms of something negative perception is that I think I took up this stage to impress and date girls of my age…. ( hahaha :D)

Eastern Mirror: Believing that you still haven’t reached your college life, what are you planning to do with ‘your passion for music’? Continue with your singing career alongside studies or any other alternate plans that you are thinking of?
WW: Obviously, as a student, study is my most important priority then music but I will still continue my passion for music as it strengthens my soul. If we’re determined then we can shot two birds at the time. Lol 😀

Eastern Mirror: What kind of music do you think will take you further with your music career? What genre?
WW: I would definitely love to go with Indie-pop, Soft rock and music that speaks to young souls; music with a positive message.

Eastern Mirror: Enlighten your interest in playing guitar and drums apart from singing. Have you undergone any kind of music classes?
WW: Initially, I started playing drums at the age of fourteen in churches and so on. Then I started playing guitar in a worship team at Police Baptist Church Tizit. Then finally at the age of sixteen , I took two months of professional guitar training at Note Grid School Of Music at Dimapur.

Eastern Mirror: Name some world class musicians and Naga musicians that inspire you the most. And if given a wish to become any musician of the world, who would you choose to be and why?
WW : I am mostly inspired by Adam Levine, Billie Joe Armstrong, Black Shelton, etc. and Naga musicians like Alobo Naga, Moba Inggang, Alo Wanth, Tali Angh, Moa Nungsang and many more. They actually pushes me to do more and focus on music like anything. Infact they all are my role models. And I believe that if I were to be a musicians I would rather be myself and not become any other musician.

Eastern Mirror: Any surprises coming up for all the thirsty music lovers of Nagaland and Indihut.
WW: Ya. I’m planning to release another new single with my back up band mates most probably before the winter set in. We are working on music arrangement and hopefully wait for the best.
