Seilensang Khongsai an up and coming 20 year old artist from Dimapur, raised in a deeply religiously family started singing from the early age of twelve.
Seilanang says he started singing in the church which eventually helped him build his confidence to come out of his comfort zone and now with his debut single “Sunshine of My Life” out on Indihut, one can look out for this young man’s soulful music.

EASTERN MIRROR: How did you break into the music industry? Tell us your journey.
SEILANSANG KHONGSAI: First of all, thank you for having me here (EM) and letting me talk about my musical journey.  I always wanted to do music since childhood but I didn’t have any idea how to begin since there was no one in my family or circle of friends who had a musical background to guide me. I have participated in various singing contests like Gospel Voice Hunt and Naga Orpheus Hunt.  And suddenly my life changed when I met my mentor Henry Tungoe who moulded me, trained me and led me to the right track to where I wanted to be. I pray may he always succeed in everything that he does in life.

EASTERN MIRROR:  What kind of music do you listen to?
SEILANSANG KHONGSAI: More often than not, I listen to country songs and soft sentimental music.

EASTERN MIRROR:  Talk us through your debut single “Sunshine of My Life”
SEILANSANG KHONGSAI: The song talks about a person who has known the true value of love.

EASTERN MIRROR:   What are your fondest musical memories?
SEILANSANG KHONGSAI: Every time I hear someone sing or play any instrument soulfully, it touches my heart because I have this feeling that music can bring tears of joy or sadness depending on the mood. These moments make me realize that music is strong and the whole world loves it. Music is what I cherish every day. Every moment I spent dwelling on my music, they become my memories.

EASTERN MIRROR:  How do you handle mistakes during performances?
SEILANSANG KHONGSAI: Till now I have not performed on a big stage or event which is what I am eagerly looking forward to. But yes, I have performed in weddings and social gatherings. Mistakes can happen obviously, but whenever I perform on stage I keep in mind what my mentor always teaches me which is to maintain visual contact with the audience, to have an ear for the monitors and most importantly, to put my heart and soul to the lyrics of the song. This has been my leitmotif ever since I started performing and it has helped me cruise along and has saved me from making unnecessary mistakes.

EASTERN MIRROR:  How do you balance your music with other obligations?
SEILANSANG KHONGSAI: Music plays a vital role in my life and it’s my first priority but yes I always make sure that all the other obligations are also taken care of. So whenever I get an off from my schedule I spend time with my parents and siblings and they have been absolutely encouraging . That’s how it goes, hand in hand.

EASTERN MIRROR:  For those who have not heard your music, tell us why they should listen to your music.
SEILANSANG KHONGSAI: Different people have different tastes in music. I should say my music and the genre I represent is an enriched version of the old country songs which is endearing both to the aged and youngsters alike. So one should go grab the song and I am sure they won’t regret listening to my music. Age no bar! (Laughs).
