Read on to find out more about Mengu Suokhrie…..

EASTERN MIRROR: You are one of the few female musicians who have boarded on this profession on your own and still surviving with new releases. How challenging was that for you?
Mengu Suokhrie: Indeed, very lucky that I was accepted. It’s not only on my own but God has been there all through this journey and of course the support of all who appreciate my music keeps me going on. As a female solo artist and to front a band is quiet challenging and it’s still is, to keep up with the expectation, have to be very hardworking, discipline and dedicated. Yes challenges like mountains I had to cross but it’s the passion and love for music that keeps me going no matter how rough the road is.

EASTERN MIRROR: Having performed in various cities across the country, which city hold closest to your heart and life changing lessons you have learned from those performances.
Mengu Suokhrie: Well every experience I get from performing at different stages , meeting different people and culture has every time taught me and  magnificently helped me grow better as an artist. Performing at The Royal Edinburgh military Tattoo was an amazing experience, sharing the stage with international artist and performers, seeing their dedications, discipline, I realised that ,to be on par I need to brush up and polish myself more and more, which means more hard work.

EASTERN MIRROR: How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
Mengu Suokhrie:  I keep telling myself to act normal and natural even if anything goes wrong. I did face some terrible situations, but I will just stay calm, not overreact and continue and still be confident and that I think covers up the blunder.

EASTERN MIRROR: What are the challenges and rewards that come from working as a musician?
Mengu Suokhrie: It’s not easy, and I don’t even expect my ride as a musician to be very smooth.Honestly,  It’s not as easy as many people think this profession is.In a budding music industry like ours it’s quite challenging to be still hanging on for survival and specially when you don’t have people around you who believes that music can even be a career.so one thing I’ve set in my mind that I shouldn’t complaint or think about the negativity or the giant challenges but stand firm as a musician, as a singer , an artist ,dedicate myself and try to be the best In my field.
I love answering to this part of the question more . Well  I write, I sing , I perform with love and when I’m heard and I’m accepted, their love ,support and response is the best thing for me,the satisfaction and joy I feel within is the best reward I could ever ask for .

EASTERN MIRROR: What are some common opinion people have about the music profession?
Mengu Suokhrie: From the observation and conversations i have drawn the idea that commonly there are two groups , one group thinks that music as a profession is not secured. They appreciate and admire musicians but they do not believe in encouraging musicians to be full timers. The later group share the same interest and also supports because they have seen and believe in the possibility of making music as a career.

EASTERN MIRROR: As an artist who has made a mark in the industry without reality singing competitions, do you think singing competitions are providing better platform/opportunities to aspiring artists? Share your opinion.
Mengu Suokhrie: Yes of course this are all good opportunities for every aspiring musicians , platforms that promotes and brings out hidden talents. But this is not only it, every artists who gets recognition from all these events or competitions should not just fold their hands and wait but work hard, more dedicated , be active ,make the best use of what they’ve earned, and keep making music. Thank you!
