Not many have inspirational stories like Thanthing Kasar, alias JC Kitt whose real life experiences have shaped his musical life.
JC Kitt is an upcoming musician from Ukhrul, Manipur who is not only a good musician but a gifted composer too.
His debut single “The last walk in the rain” is a romantic song about a person who has lost his love and still lives holding onto his memories.
His father as his inspiration, JC Kitt dreams of becoming a (real) Rockstar one day.

Eastern Mirror: How would you like to introduce yourself to those who haven’t heard of you?profile-picture
JC Kitt: Hello, I am JC Kitt, born and raised in Ukhrul district of Manipur. My real name is Thanthing Kasar. I love listening and learning old songs because it gives me inspiration for writing and composing new lyrics. I have big dreams and this one dream of becoming a Rockstar- a real star has always been my prayer (And today I see my all-knowing God answering my prayers!). My dad passed away before I was born so it has always been me and my mom. She has always been my strength ever since.

Eastern Mirror: Who is your inspiration?
JC Kitt: My dad is my inspiration. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be, where I am today.
Eastern Mirror: What is your debut ‘The Last walk in the rain’ all about?
JC Kitt: One day a friend of mine gave me a write-up which she got from her aunty. As I read it, many memories flashed back on my mind and I went through these emotional thoughts. I was like, Oh God, I have to do it! If I could only let the world know what it
’s like to lose someone we dearly love! I pondered over it for a long time (smile) with the Guitar on my lap. And finally, came up with “Last walk in the rain”. It’s a romantic/emotional song to all those people who have lived all this time, holding dearly unto the memories of their beloved, just like my mom had lived for 30 years, faithful to her man. They really deserve more! (Smiles)

Eastern Mirror: When was the day you realized music was the thirst for you? And how has your musical journey over the years been like?
JC Kitt: It was back in 2008. One fine day, I was requested to sing for a mother’s day service. I sang the song “you raise me up” and when I came down from the stage, and sat beside my mom she held my hand, looking right into my eyes, all teared up and she whispered, “You sang just like your dad and I’m so proud of you. Thank you so much love.” My heart just melted! I knew it then that music will always be there like a lifeline to my heart! (smile)
I have struggled through my musical journey and I am still struggling. But I strongly believe that there will be brighter days soon! Over the years, I have had the experience of being a part of the praise and worship team of NCF Guwahati. Later in 2011, some friends and I, formed a rock band named “Black and blue” We had lots of gigs- performing in worship-fest-beatus-spesdifferent functions, colleges and events, it was more of a learning experience and it was worth it! But circumstances took us to different places and so we decided to take a break. We had our last gig in TATA TISCON CULTURAL FEST 2014. It was the best gig we ever had and I still cherish that in my heart. And today, I’m here with the first debut single. I pray that the Lord will continue to lead me in this musical journey.

Eastern Mirror: Seeing the growing number of musicians in the region. How do you visualize the competency level of the NE musicians with mainland India?
JC Kitt: The Northeast have many brilliant musicians, who in terms of talent are second to none. Our vocals and music are commendable! Many of us are quite popular and have our own dedicated fan base in the region. But, except for a few, the rest -their music do not transcend to a wider audience, nationally or internationally for lack of exposure and opportunities. This is where our musicians need to work on to be on par with those from mainland India.

Eastern Mirror: Top five favorite songs on your playlist.
1. Abandoned love by Bob Dylan
2. She was only sixteen by Dr. Hood
3. Stay young by Don Williams
4. Jesus only Jesus by MattRedman
5. One and only by Adele

Eastern Mirror: Any new upcoming updates that you wish to share with the music lovers of Nagaland?
JC Kitt: Yes. Two big releases coming up and I am really excited for them! First will be a Tribute album to my father. All the proceeds from this album will be used for worship ministry. I have plans to organize a worship event in memory of my father who faithfully served the Lord while he was alive.
The other will be a Christmas song for all the longing/missing hearts.
