J. Yang

Who said 18 years is too early an age for one to follow a dream?
J. Yang a 12th standard student of Patkai Higher Secondary School, Dimapur has already set a dream on what he wants to become.
The young musician who grew up performing in churches, weddings, local concerts and various school events says he composes songs from his own life experiences.
Yang has also released his debut single ‘Obsessed’ which is available for download on indihut.com
Yang recalls how he first fell in love with music – the hymn lullabies his mother used to sing for him when he was just 5 years old.
Rhythm of Love today shares an insight on the upcoming Naga musician.

EASTERN MIRROR: How would you like to introduce yourself to those who haven’t heard of you yet.

J. Yang: I am J. Yang, 18 years of age and currently pursuing my 12th standard at Patkai Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. I am a singer/songwriter. Since I was 5, music and singing has always been my passion.

EASTERN MIRROR: A brief recall of how your musical journey actually started.

J. Yang: When I was at a tender age of 5, my mother always carried me on her back and used to chant hymnal songs as lullaby. I remember a song that really brought a transformation in my life and that song is ‘Back to Bethel’. I started to like that song and desperately wanted to learn and from that point my love for music winced.

EASTERN MIRROR: Which genre do you mostly wish to follow?

J. Yang: Gospel and Pop.

EASTERN MIRROR: From where do you draw your inspiration when it comes to composing songs?

J. Yang: I personally have a great inspiration in my own daily life. As i experienced the sweet and bitter days of my life, I am influenced greatly to write my life experience in my lyrics and music comes from there.

EASTERN MIRROR: Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

J. Yang: I pray and wish to see myself as a God fearing person and as a musician spreading the love for music through my songs.

EASTERN MIRROR:  If given a chance to perform with a musician who would you choose and why?

J. Yang: There are millions and billions of talented singers in this world and i really admire and appreciate all of them; their hard-work and struggles they had and through all these circumstances they are someone in life. Particularly I would be ever grateful to whoever I’ll be given an opportunity to perform with. In my mind I have a full list of artists that I really want to work with. If God’s will brings me to a day when I’ll be performing with great musicians, I will mark that day as the most happiest and gargantuan blessing in my life.

EASTERN MIRROR: Your influences.

J. Yang: As a young boy I spent my time watching T.V. One day, I found myself watching a channel where a show called “Britain’s Got Talent” was broadcasting. I was astonished by the singing talents they showed, with purity in music. And moreover when they sang their own songs, the originality motivated me to write my own songs.

EASTERN MIRROR: Best platform you have ever performed so far.

J. Yang: Back in 2015, I got an opportunity to present a song at my own village (Mongsenyimti). It was a year of great celebration at my village, marking the completion of 100 years centenary. I was nervous since thousands of people gathered to witness the function. The stage was mine for some minutes and I sang my heart out. My family and relatives were present to see me performing and that platform was the best of all.

EASTERN MIRROR: Any updates for this year that you would wish your fans to know?

J. Yang: Sigh! I am planning to release more of my own singles. I would like to say to all my friends and fans to check my songs soon after releasing and most importantly support from you all is appreciated and I will be ever grateful to all my supporters for continually supporting and encouraging me.

 EASTERN MIRROR: Favourite quote.

J. Yang: “Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star”.
