EASTERN MIRROR: What got you involved in music in the first place?
HENTICK KONYAK: I should say my dad is my real role model in my musical journey….as from childhood I grew up seeing him playing and singing country songs.

EASTERN MIRROR: What are your fondest musical memories?
HENTICK KONYAK: Flash back to 2011, when I represented Nagaland in the grand finale at Shillong. It was extremely new, and had a lot of things for me to experience.

EASTERN MIRROR: You are working as a school teacher. How do you balance your music with other obligations?
HENTICK KONYAK: Well, I love my teaching profession as much as I love music.. ..Yes! It’s hard to manage time and also being the eldest in the family, it’s very difficult. But I believe that, everything can be accommodated when you love your work heartily.

EASTERN MIRROR: Having represented Nagaland at the Northeast Highway Star Voice Hunt 2011, what are the valuable experiences you have learned?
HENTICK KONYAK: NE Highway voice star was my turning point in my musical journey.. It gave me everything, not only the platform but also a chance to prove myself and never to give up. Came across many new people to know, places etc.. It was a fun and memorable.

EASTERN MIRROR: You have debuted with Hindi music unlike other Naga musicians who pursue English. Why did you choose Hindi over English?
HENTICK KONYAK: Yes, I grew up in a Hindi speaking community and that’s the reason why I preferred Hindi rather than English.

EASTERN MIRROR: What inspires your music? Tell us the kind of music that you write.
HENTICK KONYAK: As mentioned earlier, listening to my dad singing and playing country music inspired me to love music and made me to choose slow music…
EASTERN MIRROR: Talk us through your debut single “Teri Yaadein”.
HENTICK KONYAK: My song “Teri Yaadein” talks about to those who are broken hearted, who go through all those lonely and hard situations. It’s an expression of love and care to one whom he had loved so dearly.

EASTERN MIRROR: What’s next for Hentick?
HENTICK KONYAK: Well, I’m coming up with another new Hindi love song where a little bit of Sumi (Naga) lyrics is added. It will be released very soon.
