Eastern mirror: A little intro about yourself as a solo artist.
Binto Semy: My name is Binto Semy. Born and brought up from Dimapur. I belong to the Rengma Community. I’m 19 years old. I love to sing and play the piano. I’m also into Modeling as a part time. I did my schooling from Delhi Public School Dimapur. My first piano teacher was Sooa Kim (My senior). Later on, I completed my Piano and voice lessons from Delhi School of Music.
I started singing at a very young age and had a keen interest in learning music. My parents have always supported me in this field. So I thank God for all the blessings he bestowed upon me.

Eastern mirror: what were your influences towards taking music as your full time career?
Binto Semy: I’m not a full time musician yet but I was inspired by my childhood friends like Kevin Savino who is a professional and Sooa Kim who was a very talented professional teacher for me.

Eastern mirror: list down 5 of you most memorable achievements that helped you become more polished in your profession.
Binto Semy: Being a piano teacher in different music schools and even in colleges like Tetso College, I’ve got to experience and learn new things by teaching the students. It helps us to exercise our brain and it also helps us to keep in touch with our music theory.
After winning ‘You got the voice’ 2015. I got to meet new people and I realised that it’s not only about winning the competition but also to give our best during the singing competition.
Being selected for ‘Hornbill International Rock Contest’ (The Gluttones). I needed to spend more time on my keys to create new music. I’ve learned different ideas from different musicians while performing as a keyboardist. Dedication and hard work isn’t enough but we need God’s help as well.
I’ve played along with Alo Wanth during the Nepal Fund Rise in Delhi. I felt blessed to help the victims of the earthquake.
Last but not the least, Playing for the praise and worship teams in and around India. We should glorify God with music too. For instance like : N.C.F., Soaking & Healing etc 🙂
As for my modeling career it started while I was in Delhi. I did some shows and photoshoots with Mainland people like Subuhi Joshi who’s also know as Dee Jay Esjay in Delhi and the ‘Queen’ of Splits villa.

Eastern mirror: if given a chance to perform live on stage who would It be and why?
Binto Semy: I would love to perform with the gospel band ‘Planet Shakers’ because their genre techno music and I love techno playing music too but at the same time they play to glorify God’s name.

Eastern mirror: what made you form ‘the Gluttones’ ? Any particular story that you wish to share behind the for formation?
Binto Semy: We formed this band in order to participate in the Hornbill Rock Contest but now we look forward to perform in higher platforms.

Eastern mirror: ‘piano’ considered as one of the most melodious musical instrument. What advice can you give to those young musicians who wishes to become a pianist?
Binto Semy: I don’t think I’ve reached that stage in my career where my advice is worth listening to but if I had to give one, I would definitely advice my fellow musicians to be orginal and humble. Fame and money will come and go like a changing seasons but your knowledge will stay with you forever. Do not forget our Lord father in everything you do.
