Rhythm of Love: In conversation with Romet and Seyie

‘Romet and Seyie’, two talented artists from two different parts of Nagaland came together to share the gospel through music, the duo met during a landslide camp at Sezo Hotel. 

EASTERN MIRROR: ‘Romet and Seyie’……….how did your musical career start off.
Romet and Seyie: It all started and began with an interesting friendship during a landslide in Jakhama where there was no way to college from Kohima unless one stays in Jakhama itself or its neighboring villages. Fate as it is. We met in Saho hostel who were providing temporary shelter during the landslide. To try something new in life we decided to compose a song about ourselves, a song which is relevant to people like ourselves who are lost and confused.
And with the encouragement we received from Sir Dezo Thira who welcomed us and supported us, we recorded our song

EASTERN MIRROR: What is your debut “Searching for an answer” all about?
Romet and Seyie: The song “searching for an answer” talks about a personal quest for a lost faith with all doubts, uncertainties and questions that we often come across our way. Even if we are all considered Christians we are still confused and unable to go the path of God and are lost somewhere or the other.EASTERN MIRROR: As a duo ….. Do you guys wish to take on music as your full time career?
Romet and Seyie: Certainly we would love to on take music as our full time career but with the obligations at the present moment and the distance we have now, it might take a little time to get on full pace but whenever the opportunity knocks on our door we definitely won’t let it slip out our hands to bring out another song. And we are determined and have faith that we can still make more music if it’s Gods path for us.

EASTERN MIRROR: What is your view on the gospel music scene of Nagaland?
Romet and Seyie: Well it’s undeniable that Nagas are gifted in the ways of music. There are so many upcoming artists and bands talented in their own way and with different musical tastes but looking on the vast sphere Gospel bands or Artists are few compared to other genres of music. For which we believe gospel bands and artists should be promoted

EASTERN MIRROR: Since two of you are from different districts ….. How do you plan out your schedules towards your music life?
Romet and Seyie: It’s a matter of a huge challenge and an obstacle due to the distance between us still we’ve been working on our own and hopefully we will again venture for a good recording session again.

EASTERN MIRROR: Being a gospel duo….Do you think music can do wonders in transforming the society?
Romet and Seyie: We believe and have high regard towards the society that has many potholes of isms, tribalism,hate, jealousy and corruption here and there . Perhaps through music which we Nagas are so fond with the perfect blend of gospel in it may bring about harmony and peace. After all at the end of the spectrum, we are all under one banner ‘brothers and sisters in Christ’
EASTERN MIRROR: What do you wish to achieve with the formation of ‘Romet and Seyie’?
Romet and Seyie: Well there is absolutely nothing in particular that we are looking out to achieve . Its simply for the love of music and the faith in GOD we share which has inspired and encouraged us to share with others as well. And we hope the path of Gospel Music grows bigger and wider. EASTERN MIRROR: Favorite saying…
Romet and Seyie: One thing in common between us is that we both share almost the same taste in music. When time permits us then sometimes it’s a marathon conversation on life and music which occasionally ends up with a composed song and we often like to call it as “ THE TOUCH OF THE DIVINE” (laughter). In conclusion our friendship we share we say is uncommon. And the best part is the bond we share in Christ which indeed is our favorite thing. Peace to all
