Restriction on coal transportation

Dimapur, March 17 (EMN): The district magistrate (DM) of Sivasagar in Assam has imposed restrictions on transportation of coal etc., beyond the permitted limit as prescribed by the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988; and the movement of trucks carrying such materials from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. within Sivasagar district for 60 days which has come into force with effect from February 16.

The establishment of the DM, in an order, said heavily loaded vehicles carrying materials like coal etc beyond the permitted limit as prescribed by MV Act 1988 by six wheelers/ 10 wheelers/ 18 wheelers within Sivasagar district are causing road damages. He also added that it has become a concern as it endangers human lives and public properties and likely to disturb public peace and tranquillity in the locality. The establishment cautioned that any violation of the order would be penalized by employing section-188 IPC.
