Dimapur, May 14: After a heavy rainstorm lashed several districts of Nagaland on Monday, district authorities have released its respective Emergency Relief Fund (ERF)—an advance placement of fund under the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to address any emergent and immediate cases caused by natural disasters for relief purpose—in Wokha, Tuensang, Phek, Kiphire and Dimapur.

This was informed by the state’s Relief and Rehabilitation officer, Jonjibemo Odyuo. He told Eastern Mirror on Tuesday that Kiphire district was the worst-hit among the five districts, with 120 houses reportedly affected.

Kiphire town was affected along with four other places namely: Longmatra town, Longmatra village, Okhe village, and Longthonger village. He said that the number is expected to reach 180 when the DDMA completes its verification.

“The verification teams are all in the field and we are still receiving updates on the damages,” informed Odyuo.

According to him, 15 houses were affected by the storm in Dimapur district. However, the span  of affected areas were spread wide: Rilan village; Ward 8, Chumoukedima; Chekiye village; Senjum village; Molvom village; Kupuhe village; Vihokhu market; Thaheku village; and Bamunpukhuri village.

In Wokha district, the reported number of affected houses was 20; in Phek one house was “severely damaged.”  The official informed that 32 houses were affected by the storm in Tuensang district.

Odyuo informed that the ERF is kept with the DDMA as contingency fund for addressing immediate relief and urgent needs in the wake of emergency incidences. The affected families or persons are also given State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) forms for claiming further relief as per the SDRF norms of assistance, he said.
