Dimapur, March 2: Scattered rain and thundershowers are expected in parts of Nagaland during the next 24-48 hours.

According to a forecast by Skymet Weather on Saturday, a cyclonic circulation (the swirling motion of winds caused by a low-pressure area) is over Manipur and adjoining areas of Nagaland. “Also, rain and thundershower activities are expected at many parts of Arunachal Pradesh, east Assam and adjoining Nagaland. Dry weather to prevail over rest north-eastern states.

“Day temperatures to drop by 2°C-4°C over East India and night temperatures are expected to go up by 2°C-3°C,” it informed. Dry weather will prevail over the rest of the NE states during the period.

According to the report, a western disturbance (an extratropical storm originating in the Mediterranean region that brings sudden winter rain to the northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent) now lies over north Jammu and Kashmir, and its induced cyclonic circulation is over Punjab and adjoining areas.

“Both these systems are likely to move further east/northeast ward. Rain and snow are likely at many places of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand with few moderate spells and isolated heavy spells,” the update read.
