Railway Protection Force guarding trains throughout NF Railway

Dimapur, Oct. 10 (EMN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has taken many pro-active initiatives for ensuring safety, security and hassle free journey of the railway passengers.
It may be mentioned that, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are guarding about 161 important mail/express/passengers trains on an average throughout N.F. Railway daily.

The chief public relation officer, NF Railway in Maligaon issued a press release on Wed. Oct. 10 stating that 640 officers and staff are involved in the train escort duty. The GRP is also escorting 28 trains in West Bengal and 23 trains in Bihar. This has resulted in reducing on-train incidents like dacoity, theft etc substantially.
More than 170 criminals were also arrested by RPF during last three years. RPF also successfully arrested 67 criminals allegedly involved in drugging passenger during the last three years.

RPF is regularly undertaking random frisking / checking in railway premises like platforms, parking place and on the train by utilising various security gadgets.
Nearly 400 RPF personnel are involved in this frisking duty. This has resulted into recovery of contraband items apart from arms and arrest of about 180 offenders during the period 2016-2018, August. Frequent drives against antisocial elements are also being conducted and have resulted into arrest of many such elements.

All arrested antisocial elements are regularly being handed over to State Police (GRP) for appropriate action as per law.
The RPF security helpline No.182 is functioning round the clock and providing solution to security related issues on real time basis. Complaints received through various social media platforms like Twitter are also being attended promptly with an aim to provide solution. Crime Prevention & Detection Squad (CPDS) of RPF are very much active at Divisional level to combat crime against women and children.

More than 60 RPF personnel are involved in the job. RPF has been successful to rescue a good number of children from the clutch of traffickers. RPF is also maintaining close liaison with GRP/Local Police for effective crime control.
Important stations like Guwahati, Lumding, Dimapur, Katihar, Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri Jn.,

New Coochbehar, New Alipurduar, Alipurduar, Dibrugarh, New Tinsukia etc are fitted with CCTV cameras placed at crucial locations.
CCTV Control Rooms are being manned by skilled staff round the clock to keep vigil.
