Public urged to create egalitarian society

Dimapur, Dec. 14 (EMN): Elaborating on issues and challenges confronting the Naga society especially the women in general, sub-divisional officer (SDO), Wokha, Ms Lanusenla Longkumer has underscored the need to strive for an egalitarian society.

Speaking at the inter-college literary festival cum advent Christmas celebrations was held in OJC hall of Bailey Baptist College, Wokha, on December 14, Ms Longkumer urged on the need to develop a sense of empathy and sensibility while striving towards and egalitarian society. The programme was organised by the Wokha district administration in collaboration with Bailey Baptist College and Mt. Tiyi College, Wokha.

Ms Lanusenla Longkumer exhorted the girl students to make the best use of the opportunities for their own empowerment and betterment.

Major highlight of the event included debate on “BBBP-will it help eradicate the orthodox mindset towards the female child?,” essay competition on “BBBP: Its effective in curbing dangerous social issues,” and art competition on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.

Chonchithng Y Emugrui, Ms Rosy Lotha and Yenjamo Tsopoe emerged as winners of the debate competition. In the essay competition, Mhajan Jungi, Senchumbeni Khuvung and Mhono T Ezung were declared winners, while Ms Emily Lotha, Nchumthung S Ngullie and RenbithungYanthan were declared winners of the art competition.

Tumben P Tsanglao, EAC (HQ), Wokha, gave away the cash prizes with citations to the winners. In his speech, Tumben encouraged the students to strive hard in order to achieve excellence in life. Penthungo Ngullie, principal in-charge of Bailey Baptist College, proposed the concluding remarks.
