Public sensitised on ‘free movement regime’

Dimapur, Jan. 10 (EMN): Kiphire battalion and Phek battalion of the Assam Rifles have conducted lecture on ‘Free movement regime’ in Pungro and Avangkhu on January 7 and 8 respectively.

The aim of the lecture was to spread awareness about the rules and regulations of ‘Free movement regime.’ Free move regime policy was explained to the residents in detail.

It was explained that citizens of India and Myanmar, holding a valid border pass issued by competent authorities, are permitted entry and stay within 16 kms on either sides of the Indo-Myanmar Border for a maximum period of 72 hours. Altogether, 55 residents attended the lectures.

In another programme, Shamatore battalion of the Assam Rifles conducted a free medical camp in Shamatore under Tuensang district on January 8. The aim of the medical camp was to provide free medical treatment to local residents of remote areas devoid of requisite medical facilities.

A defence release stated that a specially constituted medical team under regimental medical officer treated 207 patients including 53 males, 87 females and 67 children and were provided medicines without any charge.

Apart from the medical assistance, it added that basic awareness on HIV/AIDS and ill effects of drugs was imparted.

In yet another programme, Wokha battalion of the Assam Rifles has organised a National Integration Tour (NIT) for students from Wokha to Kohima, Guwahati, Shillong and from January 8 to 16.

An Assam Rifles press release informed that the team consisting of 20 students along with two teachers and three administration staff interacted with the Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, at Governor House in Guwahati on January 10. It added that the governor had conveyed best wishes to all the participants.
