Public hearing on MGNERGA held in Mokokchung

(EM Images)[/caption] Mokokchung, Dec. 15 (EMN): The Society for Training & Research on Rural Development, Social Unit, Nagaland, has successfully conducted the public hearing under MGNERGA at Infinity Hall, Longkumer Kilem, in Mokokchung town on December 15 with EAC (Sadar), Pichano Kikon, as an independent observer. This was the second phase of the of public hearing for the financial year 2014-15 under Mokokchung district conducted by the Society for Training & Research on Rural Development, Social Unit Unit, Nagaland. The first hearing was held on September 15 under an independent observer namely Ajit Kumar Verma, the then Assistant Commissioner, Mokokchung. During the public hearing, District Resource Person (DRP), Toshimanen, and the Block Resource Person (BRP), Tutu Jamir, had presented an elaborate reports on village-wise social audit which was followed by healthy discussion from the eight villages covering five blocks under the Rural Development, Mokokchung. The villages covered under the second phase of the social audit were Aliba, Lirmen, Anaki Old, Merangkong, Changtongya Old, Yaongyimsen, Chakpa and Longkong. EAC Pichano Kikon, while giving her remarked after hearing the social audit report, has appreciated auditors for carrying out the mammoth task of visiting each village and assessing the developmental works under the central flagship programme. Appreciating the different villages for their sincerity in implementing the MGNERGA programme in their respective villages, Pichano Kikon also urged the villages to maintain proper records so that the developmental works under the central schemes would not be hampered. She further lauded the different villages for taking the different developmental works with all earnestness through adoption of resolutions and identifying key areas for development. In this connection, Kikon strongly urged the different village leaders to take the resolutions with sincerity since ‘development’ starts from the grassroots. After threadbare discussions, the house resolved to follow the guidelines as envisaged in the MGNREGA and maintain photographs of every project in a phase-wise manner. It also resolved to rectify lapses (technical errors) on the part of the villages and to put into action the recommendations put forth by the social auditors and the independent observer for the allround development of the villages. The public hearing was chaired by Project Officer and PO (MGNERGA) DRDA, M Toshimongla Kichu, while the State Resource Person (Social Audit Unit), Vepo delivered the introduction on the public hearing. The vote of thanks was delivered by BDO and PO (MGNERGA) RD Block, Ongpangkong South, Imyapangla.
