Imphal, August 2 (EMN): A total damages inflicted by the recent flood in Manipur have been estimated about Rs. 358.23 crore. A memorandum has been submitted to centre for providing assistance, according to Chief Minister N B Singh. Chief Minister on Wednesday in the assembly said that “A total amount of Rs 4.7 crore has been released to the Deputy Commissioners for providing relief assistance to the affected people.”
He said government has also sanctioned an additional amount of Rs 2.10 crore to the Deputy Commissioners (DCs). He also informed that a total number of 1850 family tents, 42 numbers of disposable toilet tents, 172 numbers of bath toilet and 3400 number of LED lantern has been provided to the DCs. Relief material such as rice, dal, edible oil, candle packets, mosquito coils, sugar, salt, biscuits, tea bags etc have been procured by the DCs provided to the affected people, he said.
Agriculture minister V Hangkhalian informed the 60 member assembly that a total of 78,677 hectares of agricultural areas including 77,900 hectares of paddy, 307 hectares of maize, 300 hectares of pulses, 150 hectares of oil seed and 20 hectares of sugarcane were destroyed in the recent flood in the state.
In this regard, the state agriculture department has provided 12.5 metric ton of short duration paddy seeds through the district agriculture officers to prepare community paddy nursery across 20 hectares. Further, he said nursery has been developed at 15 hectares of agricultural land under the Sainik school farm at Pangei near Imphal in order to supply the required nurseries.
