IMPHAL, OCTOBER 2: A group of likeminded citizens of the state braving the ‘langban’ month heat staged ‘a silent peaceful march’ in Imphal on Sunday.
The silent march held under the aegis of Progressive Manipur was started from Thangmeiband Athletic Union (THAU) ground in the afternoon and was mostly participated by youths in white T-shirts, passed through the main roads of Thangmeiband, Khoyathong Nagamapal, Wahengbam Leikai, Keishampat junction and returned to the same route for its conclusion.
“We would like to put an end to bandh culture in Manipur as each one of us in the state is affected by such kind of protests directly or indirectly. This will continue for the generations to come if we do not act now,” said a secretary of Progressive Manipur- a group likeminded citizens in a statement.
Regarding the day’s silent march, the statement added, “This is purely to…find other means to protest without hampering daily wage earners, schools, budding entrepreneurs and the general public so we can work towards a better Manipur.”
Prior to the day’s silent march, a public meeting was also held in connection with the objective and main agenda of Progressive Manipur’s initiatives at THAU ground.
