Investigators found prescription painkillers in Prince’s possession following his sudden death last week, law-enforcement sources said Wednesday.
The local Minnesota sheriff investigating the tragedy has asked for help from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration in determining what role painkillers may have played in the “Purple Rain” singer’s death, sources told NBC News.
Prince’s friends have said he used Percocet to combat pain in his hips from years of high-energy performance and use of thick-heeled shoes. It’s not clear what drug was found in his possession.Prince, 57, died last Thursday at Paisley Park, his home and studio complex outside Minneapolis.
The singer did not leave a will, according to his sister, leaving his multimillion-dollar estate and trove of unreleased songs in limbo.
A Minnesota judge appointed a corporate trust company on Wednesday to temporarily oversee Prince’s estate.
Judge Kevin Eide granted a request from the sister, Tyka Nelson, to appoint Bremer Trust as special administrator, giving the company authority to manage and supervise Prince’s assets and identify his heirs.
