Dimapur, June 27 (EMN): Another consignment of illicit liquor seized would be ‘destroyed’ on Tuesday by the district authorities at DMC dumping ground, Burma Camp. This was notified through an order issued by the chief judicial magistrate of Dimapur on Tuesday.
The order did not specify from where or when the consignment was confiscated. It simply stated that the East Police station, Dimapur had asked for ‘pre-trial destruction’ of 2,400 IMFL seized in connection with GR-434/2017 of East PS case No 113/2017 U/s 44(a) of NLTP Act. It was only on Sunday night, that the East Police personnel had seized two liquor-laden trucks from near Hotel Tragopan junction. Eyewitness sources said that the seizure was made around 10.30 pm.
Sources also said that the number of IMFL seized that night was around 2400 bottles, 1200 from each truck – all MC Rum. It was suggested that the trucks were headed to Kohima.
Though officials refused to confirm, it has been widely speculated that the consignment was connected to the upcoming by-elections in the state. That the impounded IMFL consisted entirely of MC Rum – the most common brand of liquor used during elections in Nagaland – only served to add further fuel to the speculations.
