Kohima, Jan. 19 (EMN):
The Lower PR Hill Youth Organisation of Kohima celebrated its 25th anniversary, on Jan. 19 at Lower PR Hill in Kohima. The event was conducted with the slogan ‘towards virtuosity,’ and during which speakers commended the community for its unity.

Advisor to the Rural Development department, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire was the special guest of the day. In his address to the gathering, he said that the residents of the colony comprise people from different tribes, professions and backgrounds. He felt there was unity among the people in the colony.

Asserting that every little work was important, Kire urged the residents to cooperate with one another and to work together for the welfare of the colony. The advisor pointed out some achievements that were attained in the colony under his initiative. The lowest part of Lower PR Hill colony had fewer basic amenities including electricity. From the advisor’s initiative, four electricity posts were put in the remote areas of the colony.

The chairman of the Lower PR Hill Panchayat and the convener of the organising committee, Ketsokhol Kennao highlighted some of the developments in the colony under the initiative of Kire. These include a footbridge, footpath, and electricity facilities etc. He also pointed out some of the works being undertaken by the adoption committee too, such as a fair price shop, street lights, “anganwadi” (Hindi for roughly ‘rural child care centre’) centers, water supply and pipelines etc.

The convener of the adoption committee, Longasen Lotha also said in a short speech that the main idea behind celebrating silver jubilee was to discuss the achievements of the community so far, to forgive and forget, and to celebrate. He urged the gathering to set a good example for the younger generation. He thanked his colleagues for their ‘collective effort’ and achieving what they thought would not be achieved. He requested the residents of the area to cooperate with their leaders and contribute to the the welfare of the colony.

Earlier in the event, Kire unveiled the jubilee’s commemorative stone. Awards were also given out during the programme.

The formal programme was followed by baking competition for women. In the first position was Teiso Suohu, while Achuno Suohu and Ali bagged the second and third position, in that order. A tug of war and an entertainment segment also featured in the programme.
