Dimapur, Nov. 12 (EMN): Members of the Nagaland unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are said to have volunteered to fill potholes along a stretch of a road in Dimapur.

The unit organised a ‘social work’ with the theme ‘Mission Potholes’ on Nov. 11 from the ARTC junction till the two and a half mile junction, a press release from the media cell of the unit informed on Nov.12.

Volunteers from the “state level” unit and its youth, women and minority wing and Dimapur district AAP unit participated in the activity, the updates stated.

“The AAP doesn’t have the resources nor is it in the capacity of the AAP to provide good roads at the moment. It is the prerogative of the state government to provide quality roads. However it is of great dismay that the government has turned a blind eye to the pathetic infrastructure and the hue and cry of the common people has fallen on deaf ears,” the unit stated.

It stated that ‘Potholes Mission’ was carried out “not for publicity stunt nor to gain political mileage but to create an awareness among the people that our inherent rights are being compromised and that the public should wake up and demand what is rightfully ours.”

The work is stated to have begun at around 8 am and continued till late in the evening.

“The team filled up almost all the Potholes some even as deep as 10 inches which poses grave threat to the commuters especially the two wheelers. The social work was accompanied by poster campaign along the national highway,” the press release explained. The party will continue to work for the people and ‘such works’ will be carried out even in the near future, it assured.

The AAP has expressed gratitude to the district’s administration “for allowing the party to carry out the social work.”

Also, the party thanks all the volunteers, and well-wishers, especially one Tovi for providing gravel, and owner of Aman Fast food for providing tea to the volunteers.

The unit has apologised to the public for inconveniences that may have been caused during the social work.
