Imphal, March 19: The 27th Governor’s Cup Invitation Polo Tournament, 2017 and the 16th Governor’s Cup Women’s Polo Tournament, 2017 began on Sunday at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal with state Chief Secretary O Nabakishore Singh as the chief guest. In the opening match, Manipur Police Sport Club B won the opening game against Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club by 7 – 1 in four chukkers.
The winning goals was scored by Th Kaoba Singh (1) in the first chukker, team captain I Khaba Singh scored (2) goals in the third chukker, T Pradeepkumar Singh scored (3), two in the first chukker and one in the fourth chukker with O Suresh Singh scoring (1) in the second chukker.
The only goal of Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club, captained by O. Paikhomba Singh, was scored by S. Bronson in the last chukker of the game. Chief guest O. Nabakishore Singh said the government and people of the state need to work together for the preservation, protection and promotion of the game of Polo and the Pony.
He also appreciated the undying spirit and enthusiasm of the polo players because of which the game of Polo is still being played.
