‘Police Ke Pathshala’: Bringing police and students together

Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): The Nagaland police under the aegis of Inspector General of Police (IGP) range, Kohima, Sonia Singh started an outreach initiative which seeks to bring the police and student community closer through the programme ‘Police Ke Pathshala’.
A statement from Dr. HP Singh, said the primary objective of the programme is to change the perception on the police and to build trust by raising their awareness about procedures of law and criminal acts like domestic violence, rape, sexual harassment, cyber stalking, revenge porn and drugs abuse. It aims to instill a sense of confidence among the students and share vital information with the police without hesitation.

Dr. Singh said the students and faculty of “MCK” shared their grievances and personal perception of the police in general.
They said “the the police faces hardships but public do not give any credit to them. We only look at the negative points of the police force and build our perception on stereotypes.

We should do away with stereotypes because we cannot generalize every police to be a drunk, corrupt, or inefficient.”
“It is not only the police force who can bring about justice but it is the duty of the public to be the eyes and ears of the police so that we can make the community more peaceful and safe by reporting to the police if they see or hear any unlawful incident occurring around us,” Dr. Singh stated.

A police officer can be booked under 166A if they fail to operate and refuse to file a case by dialing helpline number 181.
