Police arrest extortionist, ganja smuggler near Kohima

An extortionist and a ganja smuggler have been arrested by Kohima district police during separate occasions during the past two days. Kohima police issued a press release eon Thursday informing of the events. On May 6, personnel of police station responded to reports about unknown antisocial persons extorting money from heavy vehicles plying along National Highway -2, between Khuzama village and Moa gate, near Kohima.
Police personnel of Khuzama swung into action and arrested one person in this connection. The police recovered cash amounting to Rs. 16,970 and two booklets of receipts from the extortionist, identified as one A James, 35 years, of Songsong village in Senapati district of Manipur.
In another incident, police have confiscated about 130 kilograms of ganja from a vehicle in an area under Viswema village near Kohima town. Police authorities informed that on May 7, the District Intelligence Branch of Kohima’s District Executive Force stopped a vehicle, a Tata Indigo, (ML-10-6419, chassis 601144MUZDF7741 and engine 4751DT12MUZPG9300). The vehicle was carrying 130 kilograms of ganja, police said.
L Chahreo Arche, 28 years, of Chwainu village under Senapati district of Manipur has been arrested in this connection, police said.
