PM to lay foundation for National Sports University

IMPHAL, April 20 (EMN): Irrigation and flood control department(IFCD) minister Letpao Haokip who holds the sports portfolio on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation of the country’s first ever sports university any time soon from now.
Minister said this while inspecting the construction site of the National sports university at Koutruk village under Manipur’s Sekmai assembly constituency. The three parliamentary Secretaries are Rameshwor Meetei (IFCD), K Robindro (YAS & Education), Heikham Dingo Singh (RD & PR) accompanied the minister during the inspection programme. The team also inspected Singda Dam and Dolaithabi Barrage Project sites in the day’s inspection programme.
At Koutruk village, the minister said that the land measuring an area of 400 acres has been available for the sports university against the required land area of 325.90 acres.
The Minister and his entourage also inspected the approach road of the university site from Koutruk to Pheidinga via Loitang Khullen.Expressing displeasure over the poor maintenance of Singda Dam, Minister Letpao instructed officials to take up beautification works by putting up of a monogram, repairing of railings and fixing of chequered tiles on the footpath.
While inspecting the construction of Dolaithabi Barrage Project, Minister Letpao Haokip said that about 96 percent of the construction works has been completed. The construction could not progress as per plan due to bandh/blockade. He said that it would take about two and a half months to complete the tunnel of the project. He also urged the contractors concerned to work sincerely and ensure timely completion of their respective works by giving prior importance to public interest.
Inspecting the bank of Imphal river at Hatta Golapati and Sanjenthong area in Imphal, Minister Haokip also said that stern action would be taken against encroachers along the bank of Imphal River. He said the illegal structures being put up at the river bank would be dismantled in consultation with the Revenue Department.
Commissioner (sports) H Deleep Singh, Chief Engineer IFCD Ksh Pritam Singh, SE, Thoubal Circle-II , K Kirti and SE, Irrigation Circle-II Songput W Albert and other officials of IFCD and YAS also accompanied the Minister.
