Dimapur, August 30 (EMN): Farmers in Phek district have pledged to double their income by 2022 and make India a clean, poverty free, corruption free, terrorism free, communism free, casteism free developed and prosperous nation. The farmers made this pledge during a programme organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek, ICAR-NRC on Mithun in Porba village under Phek district on August 30 where the Rajya Sabha MP KG Kenye was the chief guest. New India Manthan: ‘Sankalp se Siddhi,’ is a programme envisaged by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to emphasise the importance of the farmers to change the face of agriculture. The programme was launched to commemorate the Quit India Movement. Kenye visited the exhibition and undertook “Sankalp to Siddhi” march from KVK Phek campus to Porba village panchayat hall with hundreds of farmers. Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, emphasised on the importance of Mithun rearing as a component for doubling farmers’ income. He urged to conserve the healthy and well-built male bulls for further genetic improvement of the stock. Dr. RS Gandhi, ADG, ICAR, stressed on the need to check huge post-harvest losses although India has become self-sufficient in food grains. He encouraged the farmer to exploit the huge potential livestock holds. Agriculture being the main occupation of 70% population of the country, KG Kenye informed that the present government has put high priority towards agriculture and allied sector through improved technologies and schemes. Nagaland being an agrarian state, he said the State can contribute towards the New India Movement by adopting organic farming. He acknowledged the achievements of KVK, Phek, and NRC on Mithun for their effort to enhance the socio-economic condition of the farmers.
