PHED seeks stakeholders’ input to make Dimapur ODF

Dimapur, March 14 (EMN): Addressing the IEC training and awareness programme o March 14 at PHED divisional office in Dimapur, Executive Engineer P Khetoi Sema sought active participation from stakeholders towards achieving Open Defecation Free (ODF).
Emphasising on the importance toilet usage and community participation, he encouraged the participants to actively involve in the mission to make an ODF Dimapur district by 2018.
The training was conducted for WATSAN committee and village council members under the maintenance. A press release from executive engineer on Wednesday informed.
The main objective of the workshop was to identity and promotes practices of toilet usage and disseminates the safe disposal of solid liquid waste as a campaign towards Cleanliness and safe sanitation, it infromed.
SDO (PHED) Bendangtula highlighted the Swachh Bharat Mission (G) undertaken by the department. He stressed on the importance of construction of individual household latrine and encouraged the gathering to give more importance to toilet and build a sanitary latrine which is conducive for the environment and the surrounding.
SDO (PHED) Ichirang Zeliang briefed on the safety, disposal of solid and liquid waste, disposal of excreta and the practice of hand washing. He also cited some health hazards posed due to improper sanitation and poor drainage system in rural areas.
