Imphal, Jan 10: Some unidentified miscreants’ lobbed some petrol bombs made of petrol filled bottle at the compound of Tamenglong district Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow, about 150 km west of Imphal on Monday at around 6.40pm, reports said.
The petrol bombs were hurled from the southern boundary walls of the bungalow taking advantage of the darkness, sources said. However there was no report of any human casualty as most of the petrol bombs did not explode during the incident.
A case has been registered at Tamenglong police station in this regard for necessary steps source added. More house guards were also deployed and patrolling has been intensified in view of the development.
It may be noted that United Naga Council (UNC) which had called indefinite economic blockade on National Highways in Manipur (since November 1 midnight) in protest against the state government’s move to upgrade Sadar Hills and Jiribam into full fledged districts, had hardened its stance despite the widespread appeals to relax the blockade in view of the people’s sufferings, following a recent decision and start to launch picketing government offices in Naga areas as part of intensifying the agitation. Interestingly despite the ongoing blockade, goods laden trucks continues to arrive in Imphal along the blockade hit 222km Imphal-Jiribam road under tight security cover even though the movement of the goods trucks have stopped along Imphal-Mao sector of National Highway 2 since the beginning of the blockade.In another development, the normal passenger bus services along Imphal-Senapati route have resumed their services since Monday while usual passenger services along Imphal-Tamenglong via Noney town also slowly started to ply since the last few days. However the normal passenger services between Imphal-Mao via Senapati district headquarter and Imphal- Ukhrul passenger service are yet to be started,sources said.
