Dimapur, March 14 (EMN): Villagers in Ikiesingram village in Peren district have called for intervention from the authorities following what updates on Thursday stated was fear caused by the presence of security forces and armed cadres of the NSCN-IM.
The village’s council issued a press release on Thursday stating that the underground cadres have been ‘roaming’ in the Khelma Kabai area. The activists are said to be asking from the villagers rations and making ‘monetary demands’ too, which the villagers cannot meet.
‘We are poor people,’ the village council stated and demanded that the authorities tell the authorities “tell” the armed cadres to ‘go back to Hebron.’

Besides ‘frequent encounters’ between the soldiers and underground activists have been causing a ‘panic situation.’
“Since July 2018 armed cadres of the (NSCN) IM are roaming in Khelma Kabai area. Frequent encounters between Assam Rifles and these cadres is increasing panic situation in region and public is living in a state of fear,” the press release stated.

According to the village, there were numerous occasions during the past seven-eight months when the Assam Rifles had caught “them or destroyed their temporary makeshift.”

“After every such incident cadres visit our villages and asked for ration and monetary demands. We are poor people and can’t afford to feed so many cadres for such a long time. If we refused to give them then fear of life is there (sic).”

The village has requested the authorities in concern to look into this urgent matter and “tell these cadres to go back to Hebron.”
That way, the village stated, the people of the region can live peacefully.

The press release stated: ‘The presence of the Assam rifles and the cadres in region remind us of the bloody encounters of the 1990s.’ The village stated that the Assam Rifles and these cadres had face-to-face encounters too three times during which camps were burnt two times and “asked for surrenders.”

On March 8, the press release stated, one of the underground cadres identified to be one “sgt maj” Kinwibou was caught by the Assam Rifles.

The villagers also asked the families of the armed cadres to ‘call them back.’
‘Once again, the village authorities are requesting on behalf of the region’s people, to the civil and (NSCN) IM authorities to call these cadres back,’ the press release stated.
