Mokokchung, June 14 (EMN): Eighteen students of Peoples College in Mokokchung came forward for voluntary blood donation during the World Blood Donor Day celebration at the college on Friday.

The programme was organised by Rotary Club Mokokchung in collaboration with Blood Bank Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital.

CMO Mokokchung, Dr Chubala Aier while highlighting the significance of the day, said the event was observed to thank voluntary unpaid donors for their life-saving gift of blood and also to raise awareness among the people to make sure that people have access to affordable and timely supplies of safe and quality-assured blood.

She also informed that blood and blood products are essential components for women suffering from bleeding associated with pregnancy, childbirth, accidents, patients undergoing advanced medical and surgical procedures etc.

In this connection, she asserted that spreading awareness to the masses on voluntary blood donation can play a crucial role to achieve the universal need for safe blood in health care.
