People pay tribute as Imtikumzuk Longkumer journeys home

A send-off service for the mortal remains of the late Imtikumzuk Longkumer, advisor for Sericulture & Excise department, was held at his official residence in Kohima on Monday.

Speaking at the funeral service, the working president of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Alemtemshi Jamir recalled the time he met with the late legislator who was described as a dynamic young man. He was personal secretary to former chief minister SC Jamir then.

Alemtemshi mentioned that the demised leader’s humility and love for the people made him a leader of the people and the mandate of electing him twice to the assembly from a prestigious constituency spoke for itself.

Opposition MLA Imkong L Imchen, spoke on behalf of the opposition legislators. He recounted the times Longkumer was a young public leader who was always at the front to address the plight of the common people. He said that the late legislator was a refined and simple man whose leadership qualities overcame hurdles; he became a leader through zeal to serve the people.

The send-off service of late Imtikumzuk Longkumer, Advisor, Sericulture and Excise was held on 24th September 2018 at the Official Residence, New Minister’s Hill Kohima at 8 am.

Minister for Higher & Technical Education Temjen Imna Along Longkumer, and minister for Agriculture and Cooperation G. Kaito Aye; and leaders of the Kohima Ao Union also spoke at the service before the mortal remains of the legislator was taken to his native village, Ungma in Mokokchung district where a state ceremony will be held on September 25.

The bereaved wife of Imtikumzuk, Imkongzungla Longkumer described in her speech her husband as a man with good qualities who was humble, sincere in work and a person who loved serving the people. Also, she described him as a loving and a good father to his children.

Wokha:

A short service was conducted here at the Wokha police point on Monday for the departed legislator with citizens coming to mourn and paying their tributes to Longkumer.  The prayer service was led by Associate Pastor Abemo L Jungio of the WTBC.

Legislators Tongpang Ozukum, Imkong L Imchen, Temjen Imna Along, Mhathung Yanthan, Imnatiba, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, and Dr. Chumben Murry were among the mourners in the entourage accompanying the mortal remains.

A short speech and message of condolence was delivered by leaders of the Lotha Hoho, Wokha’s NDPP unit, Ao Senden of Wokha; and president of Wokha’s BJP unit.

A mass prayer seeking the Almighty God to bless and strengthen the bereaved family was sid. The mortal remains of Longkumer were then escorted to his native village Ungma in Mokokchung district.
