Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): A three-day seminar on peace, an inter-school event, and a summer camp for members of Peace Club in Dimapur district was conducted during July 10-12 at the Don Bosco hr. sec. school, with a slogan ‘passion for excellence.’

Updates from the organisers informed that the main objective of the event was to capacitate and empower the members to learn nonviolent communication, and to share their experiences in peace building as leaders. Likewise, the organisers hoped to promote peace ‘where ever they are.’

They also will undergo various trainings on reconciliation, goal-setting, peace and dialogue, the updates stated.

The inaugural function was held on the 10th of July. Addressing the inaugural function was Fr. Dr. CP Anto. He was stated to have exhorted the youths to be the messengers of peace and to make Nagaland a model state of peace in India by 2030.

Anto quoted Mahatma Gandhi: ‘Be the change that you wish to see in the world.’ He asked the gathering to build peace and be change makers in the family, schools and communities when they go back home.

Speaking at the occasion also was Maj. Mohit Singh from the Assam Rifles, who was the special guest of the event. He spoke about the importance of peace and the role of children and youths in building peace. ‘Make use of the peace movement called Peace Channel in building the future generation as peace makers,’ he said. He spoke about what the organisers said were two types of peace: internal peace and external peace. “Internal peace will make all to enjoy external peace,” he said. Urging the gathering to have goals in life, he advised them that ‘a life without a goal is no life,’ the updates stated.

The second day of the event began with a session on ‘inner peace.’ The idea was to ‘let the participants deliberate state of psychological or spiritual clam despite the potential presence of stressors,’ the updates stated.

Also, the gathering was taught about leadership. It is an art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal, the resource persons said. The gathering was giving an elaboration that a good leader must acquire good leadership skills. Good leaders acquire the skills of responsibility, active listening, spirit of team work and are empathetic, the organisers stated in the updates.
