Welcoming the signing of the peace accord between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and former Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that it will bring lasting peace and strengthen the democratic foundation of the country.
“I congratulate the Government of India, the Prime Minister and the NSCN-IM for signing of the accord. It is indeed a landmark occasion for the country, especially the Naga people who have struggled for more than six decades in our search for permanent peace. The efforts and sacrifices of all the national workers especially Isak Chishi Swu and Th. Muivah and needs to be appreciated by one and all. Every Naga family has made sacrifices in our journey towards peace and the attainment of permanent peace will be the true achievement of the Naga people” Rio in a statement said.
Appealing all sections to unify in the spirit of understanding and brotherhood, Rio said, “This is a great opportunity for all sections to come together and unite for the cause of peace and in the greater interest of the Naga people.”
A historic Peace Accord was signed between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM today in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After the signing of the accord the Prime Minister spoke to MP and both congratulated each other on the historic occasion. Modi appealed to Rio for cooperation in the peace process while MP also assured fullest assistance and cooperation in the common endeavor to achieve permanent peace.
