Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) has expressed deepest appreciation to the people of Nagaland for reposing their faith on the PDA consensus candidate Tokheho Yepthomi in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections.

In a statement issued on Friday, the PDA media cell stated that the Election Commission of India, the state’s Election department, government machinery, law enforcing agencies, NGOs, church organisations, and tribe hohos deserve to be congratulated for the successful conduct of the most peaceful, free and fair elections.

It congratulated the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah for the landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections. “We welcome the statement of the prime minister in his victory speech wherein he has assured that the NDA government will protect the interest of the minorities and we are confident that the PM’s commitment will be carried out in letter and spirit.”

The PDA reiterated its commitment to actively facilitate the ongoing Indo-Naga political negotiations and make all possible efforts towards facilitating an early political solution. “The PDA has been consistent in its political stand and we have reiterated time and again that the PDA will not stand in the way and pave way for any alternative arrangement that may arise out of the political talks. The PDA reemphasises our support of the legitimate demand of the Naga people for integration of all Naga inhabited areas under a single administrative umbrella as has been unanimously resolved on five occasions by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.”

It appealed to the “new dispensation of the forthcoming central government to expedite the negotiations.”

“We appreciate the government of India for recognising the unique history of the Nagas and we appeal for a political solution that honours the legitimate political rights of the Naga people and ensures the political symbols for which the Naga movement has struggled. The PDA is confident that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country will achieve greater heights and towards this endeavour we assure our cooperation and support and we extend our best wishes to the forthcoming NDA II central government,” the statement read.
